Computer Forensics

Computer forensics is simply the application of computer investigation to determining if potential evidence is available to be used in legal or civic proceedings.

Evidence might be proof of computer crime or misuse, fraud, divorce or other civic matters

The staff of MicroAge Truro has access to methods for discovering data that resides in a computer system, or recovering deleted, encrypted, or damaged file information.

Any or all of this information may help during discovery, depositions, or actual litigation.

Protection of evidence is critical.

Our knowledgeable staff will ensure that a subject computer system is carefully handled to ensure that:

  1. No possible evidence is damaged, destroyed, or otherwise compromised by the procedures used to investigate the computer.
  2. Extracted and possibly relevant evidence is properly handled and protected from later mechanical or electromagnetic damage.
  3. A continuing chain of custody is established and maintained.
  4. Business operations are affected for minimal times.
  5. Any client-attorney information that is inadvertently acquired during a forensic exploration is ethically and legally respected and not divulged.

Who uses this service?

  1. Criminal Prosecutors
  2. Civil litigations
  3. Insurance Companies
  4. Corporations or Small Business

  6. Individuals

What is the cost of this service?

To answer this, we would need to know what type of data we are looking at.  There are four main types:

  1. Standard Data - Information that is stored on the computer
  2. Backed up Data - Information that is stored on CDs, tapes or other storage media
  3. Deleted Data - Information that was stored on the computer, but has since been deleted or removed
  4. Encrypted or Password Protected Data - Information that has been encrypted or had a password activated to prevent it from being viewed.

The basic fee to diagnose and report on what data may possibly be retrieved is $25.00.  This of course is waived if you decide to have the information recovered.
